Member protection in surf life saving

Avoca Beach Surf Life Saving Club is committed to the protection, welfare and well-being of all members and dedicated to providing a positive and safe environment. We follow the SLSA Member Protection Policy and Child Safe Policy.

All Members at ABSLS have a responsibility to protect each other, particularly children and young people, and to create a child-safety culture that is inclusive and nurturing. The responsibilities of members are set out in the Member Code of Conduct in the Member Protection Policy.

Our club has a group of volunteers that look after member protection issues:

  • Member protection information officer (MPIO): The MPIO is available to provide information to members that may have an issue. The MPIO is the first point of contact for any members who wants to raise a concern, complaint or provide feedback. To contact the MPIO, contact a member of the ABSLS management team or email

  • Complaints manager: After speaking with the MPIO, formal complaints will be managed by the Complaints manager according to the Complaints Policy.

  • Child Safety Coordinator: Supports ABSLS club management to create a child safe environment.  Click here for more on child safety (link to the nippers child safety page).
