Nineteen members of Avoca Beach SLSC travelled to Pacific Palms Surf Life Saving Club to patrol their beach over the weekend of 17–18 January. Avoca has supported the Pacific Palms club for one weekend each year for more than 15 years.
Pacific Palms has a local population of just under 1,000 people, but during the Christmas and New Year holiday period this increases to more than 5,000. With a relatively small membership base, the club relies on support from several Central Coast and Sydney surf clubs to provide patrol assistance and respite over a four-week period in the New Year.
A total of 19 members from Avoca made the 440 km return trip and carried out both morning and afternoon patrols on Saturday and Sunday, covering all of the usual specialist patrol roles required.
Thank you to Brett Higgins, Belinda Clark, Steve Bingham, Linda Van Hove, Shona Hawkins, Lindsay Cunningham, Gary Byak, Liza Whitfield, Greg Byrne, Peter Kemp, Janet Kemp, Janet Cobb, Jane Gillings, Len Tesorino, Kate Besley, Dave McAlpine, Nigel Ball, Michael Hunter, and Nick Welch.
It was another great weekend, with members enjoying the opportunity to stay at and make full use of the club’s excellent facilities.
